The SNCF Voyageurs Supply Chain plays an essential role in ensuring the availability of rolling stock, in terms of comfort and safety.

Indeed, rolling stock maintenance depends on the availability of staff, facilities - the Technicentres - and, above all, parts. These come either from suppliers or from the Technicentres Industriels. This supply of parts is, in short, the Supply Chain.

On the one hand, it involves many players: Equipment Engineering, Purchasing, the entities in charge of planning, procurement and logistics, and of course our suppliers and Technicentres.

On the other, it's a well-oiled machine, with each player playing a precise role in delivering the right part, to the right place, at the right time and at the right price.

Chaque trimestre, les Responsables Logistique Industrielle (RLI) se retrouvent pour renforcer les pratiques communes et mettre en avant des initiatives comme le Kitting On Time et les outils numériques de l’Usine du Futur.

    An acceleration in logistics requirements

Since 2006, the Direction du Matériel has been stepping up its efforts, particularly in the logistics sector, in response to a new context:

    • The end of the rail monopoly with the gradual opening up to competition has pushed the company to offer optimized, adapted and competitive Supply Chain solutions.
    • The increase in the number of SNCF Voyageurs' external and international customers (CFL, Siana, Eurostar, Lyria, Seter, Ateinsa, etc.) is boosting flows and demands.
    • The transformation of rolling stock with new equipment to meet new passenger needs (power sockets, USB ports, WIFI, display screens, etc.) and the customization of train set design by line and by Region, multiply the number of references available.

On June 20, 2024, the upgrades to the GEODIS logistics platform in Moissy-Cramayel were unveiled.

    Plateforme de Moissy Cramayel

No fewer than 275 jobs are involved in Storage and Distribution. Among them :

    • 130 logisticians at the Moissy-Cramayel logistics platform (GEODIS)
    • 2 transport contract managers (GEODIS)
    • 59 dedicated drivers (GEODIS)
    • 79 logisticians on 13 industrial sites (SNCF Voyageurs)
    • 5 pilots for the logistics network management (SNCF Voyageurs)

Supporting the growth of the logistics business

Between 2010 and 2020, the number of part numbers managed by the Direction du Matériel jumped by 25%, from 120,000 to 150,000. Between 2024 and 2026, the Direction du Matériel forecasts a 20% increase in demand for parts. As a result, it is accelerating its transformation to improve performance, robustness and agility.

This growth is due to two main factors:

    • OPTER, the program to renovate and modernize 40% of the TER fleet, i.e. around 1,000 trainsets, which therefore requires a large number of parts (consumables and repairables);
    • Growth in demand, with increasing passenger numbers and record ridership in 2023.
