Our markets and territories

From the long haul to the short haul, we criss-cross France and part of Europe. Our trains connect with each other to reach 3,000 towns and cities in France.  

With our TER, Transilien, TGV INOUI, OUIGO and INTERCITÉS brands, as well as our rolling stock maintenance workshops, we are present in every region of mainland France (excluding Corsica).   

All these markets are now open to competition, either through calls for tender on behalf of the organizing authorities, or through open access.

TER designs and operates SNCF Voyageurs' public transport offering on behalf of France's 11 regions, which are today the transport organizing authorities (TOA).

These conventional transport contracts will go out to tender in 2019, and tenders will be mandatory from 2023. Conducted by the regional transport organizing authorities, these calls for tender are an opportunity for us to showcase our expertise and pursue our ongoing commitment to improving passenger service.

As the long-standing operator of regional lines, we have the advantage of being able to offer a complete, fully-integrated package: commercial services (including ad hoc services and fares), passenger information, ticketing, transport and maintenance.

Operator of streetcars, RERs and trains, Transilien is the leader in dense-area mobility. Its network comprises 15 lines in the Île-de-France region, home to 12 million people. This expertise in the densely populated area makes Transilien a demonstrator of our performance in passenger flow and traffic management.

The lines currently operated by Transilien will be gradually opened up to competition from December 2023.

In all regions, we deploy a multimodal offer combining, depending on the case, train, RER, streetcar or coach; the natural complementarity with the urban transport offer of Keolis (link), a subsidiary of the SNCF group, is also one of our assets for reinforcing regional coverage.

With over 200 destinations, criss-crossing France from north to south and east to west, our TGVs (INOUI and OUIGO) are familiar faces in the countryside.

Since 2020, our high-speed lines have been open to competition.

Our INTERCITÉS trains, day and night, are strengthening their presence in the regions, with medium- and long-distance journeys accessible to all. Certain lines are operated under an agreement with the State, the organizing authority: these are the Trains d'Équilibre du Territoire¹, or trains of territorial interest. From December 2023, the renewal of these tenders will also be subject to competitive bidding.

Thanks to our know-how and expertise as an incumbent operator, as well as our capacity to innovate in terms of both services and technology, we see competitive tendering as a gas pedal in our quest for performance and competitiveness.  

It also gives us the opportunity to continue our development on the European market, drawing on our experience with Eurostar, Thalys and TGV Lyria.

The arrival of new companies on domestic routes is accompanied by fair, non-discriminatory access to our maintenance technicenters: an opportunity for our Industrial Division (link) to offer its catalog of services to the new operators. The same applies to our subsidiary Masteris, with its range of services covering the entire rolling stock life cycle.

For its part, our subsidiary SNCF Connect & Tech ↗ supports the growing digitalization of mobility, both in terms of service production and passenger usage. It works to develop new distribution and information services for passengers, and to constantly improve the functionalities and performance of SNCF Connect, our e-commerce site (link), and its application.

Our markets are evolving, and new ones will emerge. Our ambition is to keep pace with changing lifestyles and uses, by continuing to provide relevant solutions to the needs of all our customers, and by capitalizing more than ever on our core business - green mobility.
