Implementation of systematic reservation in Normandie

With longer journey times and a wide range of travel motivations, the network of lines linking Paris to Normandie stands out from other TER services. The introduction of systematic reservations is a response to these particularities.

The Normandie Region was the first to introduce free systematic reservation on July 1rst, 2022, before the Grand-Est Region followed suit in summer 2024 for its two lines to Paris. Here's a look back.

    Managing random route capacity

    NOMAD Réseau de mobilité normand

Focused on Krono+ and Krono trains to and from Paris, systematic booking satisfies strong passenger demand and helps to better manage train occupancy rates. Indeed, the NOMAD regional train network is used as much for everyday journeys as for occasional leisure escapades. The introduction of systematic reservations offers a triple benefit: guaranteed seating, choice of seat type and personalized recontact for travel-related information.

At the same time, subscribers have access to a dedicated tool: Ma place à bord (My seat on board), enabling them to reserve 2 seats per day free of charge for their daily journeys.

    Promoting access to low rates

Systematic booking does not, however, lead to an overall price increase. In fact, modulating fares according to occupancy rates promotes access to preferential fares for passengers, and allows us to understand journey capacity. The result is improved comfort for every passenger, and a high-quality offer.
